Dreams: Can they happen in this time of practicality?
By Chris Teo

As I look in retrospect on the past twenty odd years of my life, I realized that dreams can come through in today's world if one is open to it.

There are two hurdles to clear in order to facilitate this from happening though. The first major hurdle is circumstance. When I say circumstance, I am referring to the boundaries and social situation one is in. I can dream of owning a Ferrari but can my measly pay support such a desire? Perhaps I may know the winning 4D combination for this week's draw. However, if I do not have money to buy the ticket and no way of communicating this to others, I probably won't land the prize.

The second hurdle is the self. It is common to face doubts and questions from your immediate surroundings when you decide to pursue your dreams. How often have we heard someone say he would stop whatever his doing to pursue something in the likes of traveling, mission work or even for studies in a subject that society does see immediate value in such as fine arts or the social sciences.

In the face of all these uncertainties, it is only comforting to stay put in our zone of familiarity and wonder if such dreams are realistic in this pragmatic world. Many would suggest shelving it and recognizing that that is the way it is in the "real world". A few would stand firm and go for it. It is these few that subscribe and put to action the belief that if you define the circumstances as real, they would be real in consequence.

So I say to you my friend. Dare to dream and go for it no matter how the rest of the world stones you for it!
